ADHD in the Classroom
The beginning of a school year can be a stressful time for all concerned - student(s), teacher(s), and parent(s) alike. For students with learning disabilities associated with ADHD the academic environment is especially challenging. Consequently, parents of a child with ADHD are usually advised to let their child's teacher(s) know in advance that their son or daughter has ADHD, and, if their child has attended school in the previous year, to provide teachers with a list of prior classroom accommodations that proved effective. The resource guide from the U.S. Department of Education provides information on the identification of ADHD, as well as the educational services available. It is designed for educators and parents, and can be found at: http://www.ed.gov/teachers The following short list of books for teachers may also offer strategies for working with children with ADHD: A New Look at ADHD: Inhibition, Time and Self-Control (VHS Video with Manual) The Other Me: Poetic Thoughts on ADD for Adults, Kids and Parents Driven to Distraction Why Johnny Can't Sit Still |
